Action Plan
An Action Plan is a plan for making a teaching change that will enhance your students understanding of mathematics.

Describe your teaching situation
Name Laura Garrigues
School East Omak Elementary
Teaching assignment 5th grade (all subjects)
Describe your student population (approximate number, ethnicity, language, etc)

I have 24 students. My students are a mixture of ethnicities and cultures (the majority are Native American, Hispanic, and Caucasian).
Describe your teaching change
I would like to work on both instruction and assessment(can't have one without the other :) ).
Set Teaching Goals
One of my teaching goals is to provide quicker feedback to my students. This goes with my personal goal of continuing to work on and improve my use of formative assessment in my classroom.
Another teaching goal I have for math this year is to focus more on vocabulary. Each student will have a place to keep and details to their vocabulary, building and keeping record of their schema through a type of "learning log."

Describe Teaching Actions
The neat thing about technology we have worked with this week is that I can definately see how it can be used to help students get quicker feedback on concepts while they are exploring and learning. Fathom has many applications just in the graphing program that allows students to quickly grab and change a graph, which will be a great tool to use while practicing graph interpretation. I am still trying to figure out how I can use the technology more often in my classroom. I currently have very few computers that are available for student use, and I'm not sure if they will support the Fathom program. Luckily, I have a document camera and projector in my classroom, so I can at least put the program up on the projector and use it for examples and whole class activities.

For math vocab, I am planning on utilizing the ELL vocabulary strategies that we talked about with Mary Jane. I know the strategies will really help me connect math concepts to my ELL students, but the cool thing is they will benefit ALL students, not just those learning English.

Assess Teaching Goals
Identify how you are going to assess each of your teaching goals (simple method of collecting information to see if your teach goals was met).
Timeline
Outline a general timeline that identifies when you are going to use your actions, collect your assessment data
Reflection
Write a reflection on the results of your action plan. What was difficult? What worked well? How did your students react to the changes you made? What was the impact on student learning?
